Wedding invitation on WhatsApp: send a link, not a picture

Why a photographed invitation loses its details in a family group chat, and what to send so every relative can find the time, the venue and the map.

Almost every wedding invitation in Pakistan is opened on WhatsApp before it is opened anywhere else — that is simply where the family already is. Which makes the actual decision that matters less about colour or font, and more about what you are sending: a link, or a picture.

What happens when you send a picture or a video

It gets forwarded. Somebody's phone compresses it, somebody else screenshots the screenshot, and by the third or fourth hop the names are blurry and the date is unreadable. Nobody can zoom into a video without losing quality, and nobody can tap it to see the venue on a map.

It also cannot be corrected. If the venue changes after you have sent it, every copy already forwarded is now wrong, and there is no way to reach the copies you do not control.

What a link does instead

A link opens the same way every time, on every phone, at full quality — because nothing was ever compressed. There is nothing to forward incorrectly: the address is the invitation.

It can carry more than a picture ever could:

  • Get Directions, straight into Google Maps
  • Add to Calendar, so the date is not just seen once and forgotten
  • A guest's own name and their own events, if you are using private links
  • Whatever you change later, the moment you save it, the same link, corrected

Sending it

Copy the link from your dashboard and paste it straight into the chat — a family group, a cousin abroad, or one relative at a time if you are using private guest links. WhatsApp shows a preview automatically: your cover image and the couple's names, the same way a shared article shows its headline.

Nothing to install on their end, nothing to download. They tap it, it opens.
